Churches Can Resume Services

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has given churches the green light to resume in-person services this weekend. While the Governor’s directive allows churches to conduct in-person services, many churches in the state have decided to conduct online or drive thru services for the foreseeable future. The Archdiocese of Dubuque has decided to continue the suspension of all public masses. Reynolds says while religious leaders are grateful for the opportunity to come back together with their members, they are also aware of the importance to do so in a safe and responsible manner. Department of Public Health Deputy Director Sarah Reisetter says churches, synagogues or other hosts of spiritual or religious gatherings that wish to resume in-person services must take special steps to ensure the safety of their congregations. With the Governor’s announcement that places of worship can reopen, the health department has received a lot of questions about what is considered a worship or religious service. For more on safety guidelines for churches that are resuming in-person services visit coronavirus.iowa.gov at the top of the webpage.
