Charlotte’s Owner Now Aiming for June Re-Opening

The owner of a downtown Dubuque coffee shop say they’re making progress on rebuilding the business, just not as much as they’d like. Charlotte’s Coffee House was destroyed by a fire late last July. Initially, owner Cheryl Rusk said she hoped to reopen in about a month. But nearly six months later, the building at the corner of 11th and White Streets still isn’t ready for customers. Rusk says that’s partly due to her insurance company, which wouldn’t allow any work in the first two months following the fire. In the meantime, Rusk has opened a small shop inside Medical Associates East Campus. She says seeing regular customers again has been encouraging. Rusk now hopes to have the original Charlotte’s back open by the beginning of June.
