Cavanaugh, Sprank, Roussell, Resnick Win

The makeup of the Dubuque City Council will look much different following last night’s election. Incumbent at-large representative David Resnick won easily over challenger Luke Schiltz. Resnick received 4,301 votes while Schiltz got 1,440. Resnick, who will be serving his 4th four-year term on the council, thanked the citizens for coming out to support him. Newcomer Laura Roussell defeated incumbent Luis Del Toro to capture the second ward seat. Roussell received 896 votes while Del Toro captured 741. Ward 4 will now be represented by Brad Cavanaugh, who defeated Jay Schiesl 974 to 377. Cavanaugh says he is ready to go to work. Newcomer Danny Sprank was able to stave off challenger Phil Atkinson in the 3rd ward by receiving 867 votes to Atkinson’s 353. Sprank says he believes his door-to-door campaign help voters get familiar with who he is. After the votes are canvassed by the board of supervisors next Tuesday, Sprank will be sworn-in during a special council meeting later that day. He is serving the remaining two years of former councilwoman Kate Larsen’s term.
