“The Big Broadcast” with host Bill Zwack can be heard every Sunday evening from 6:00pm to midnight on AM 1370 KDTH.
But it all started back in the 60s when Bill was curious as to the where about of Jon Arthur of Big Jon and Sparkie and the program “No School Today”. Bill finally tracked down Jon Arthur and was able to secure several of his old programs. That started Bill’s collection. Through the 60s and 70s, Bill continued to collect old radio programs from other collectors, antique stores, and from old acetate recording discs. Bill’s collection is now in the neighborhood of 100,000 recordings.
In the early 1970s, Bill began a daily program called “The Radio Theater” which then grew into “Studio B” and was also hosted by Bill Zwack. Shortly after, a program called “Echoes of the Past” began airing in Dubuque on Sunday nights. The response was so great that it was expanded and named “The Big Broadcast”. “The Big Broadcast” was off the air in Dubuque from 1980-1988 when it returned to the air in much the same form it is today. In 2000, “The Big Broadcast” began airing on AM 1370 KDTH and has continued with Bill as the host for those many years. And, as Bill says, “Other than reading, you do not get to use your imagination very much since we are all so visually oriented. Radio stimulates the imagination so that the listener can create the costumes and set the stage. A horror show is going to be as horrific as your imagination lets it.”
Tune into “The Big Broadcast” every Sunday night from 6:00pm – midnight on AM 1370 KDTH.
