Cassville Man Injured In One Vehicle Crash

A Cassville man was flown to UW Hospitals in Madison after he crashed his vehicle in Grant County early Sunday morning. The crash happened about six hours before deputies and EMS could locate the accident scene. At around 6:30, dispatch received a call from a man with very poor cell phone reception. The man, later identified as 35 year old Dustin Hampton, could not tell authorities his location, but he did tell them he had been in an accident and was injured. The call was dropped and a search and rescue was organized. About an hour-and-a-half of searching the roads in Beetown and Cassville, the crash scene was finally located on Highway 81 near County Road Y in the Township of Cassville. Hampton was traveling east on 81, when he lost control of his vehicle, which left the road, went down an embankment and struck several large rocks and trees and overturned end-over-end several times. Hampton was partially ejected from the vehicle. The sheriff’s office says speed and Hampton’s condition are suspected factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
