Casinos Hope To Open In June

Casinos across Iowa have been closed for weeks now because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but most of them are optimistic about reopening their doors once Governor Reynolds’ emergency proclamation expires on May 27th. The Dubuque Racing  Association Board of Directors met virtually yesterday and are hopeful that the Governor will ease some restrictions and allow Dubuque’s two casinos, as well as casinos across the state to open back up. Q. Casino President and CEO Jesus Aviles says once they get the green light, they’ll be ready in accordance to whatever they are required to do by the state. Q General Manager Brian Rakestraw says casinos in Iowa along with the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has presented the Governor’s office with minimum standards that they will implement prior to reopening. Aviles says they have been in constant contact with their furloughed employees who can’t wait to get back to work. Q was able to pay all of its’ workers through April 15th. A number of casinos in the country have reopened or have plans to reopen soon. They include Louisiana, Mississippi, Kansas and Missouri.
