Bustos Questions Company Officials Over Planned Galena Plant Closure

The Congresswoman who represents northwestern Illinois is asking company officials to reconsider their planned closure of a Galena plant, which is expected to cost 50 people their jobs. Democrat Cheri Bustos met with company leaders from Honeywell at her Washington office on Tuesday, and delivered them a letter outlining the concerns she has about the planned closure. Bustos also requests an explanation of Honeywell’s reasoning for closing the facility. She’s also asking the company to provide details of how it will support any workers who lose their jobs. The letter cites the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires companies to give workers at least two months’ notice prior to plant closings or mass layoffs. Honeywell has said that the Galena plant will likely shut down late this year, but that many of the site’s employees will be transferred to another Honeywell facility in Freeport.
