Board Approves Pay Hike for Teachers

Teachers, nurses and counselors in the Dubuque Community School District will see a slight increase in their wages when the fiscal year begins on July 1st. During its’ meeting this week , the school board approved a 2.01 percent increase in salaries and benefits for those union employees. Human Resources Director Phil Kramer says the total package is an increase of 365 dollars on the base salary. Those changes to the insurance plan, according to Kramer were very minimal. This year, state lawmakers approved a little over a 2-percent increase in supplemental aid. Kramer says because of that they were forced to make changes in their insurance offering. Kramer says they still have four more union contracts to settle and are currently in negotiations. Non-union contracts will be negotiated over the next few weeks. Kramer says the hope is to have all of the contracts signed, sealed and delivered by the June board meeting.
