Blum, Finkenauer Campaigns Continue to Spar Over Debates

Blum, Finkenauer

The two candidates seeking the represent the Dubuque area in Congress are taking jabs at each other over debates…again. Republican Congressman Rod Blum’s campaign this week announced that he had accepted an invitation to a 7th debate to be held ahead of his showdown with Democrat challenger Abby Finkenauer. The invitation came from Cedar Rapids-based TV station KGAN for a debate that would be held a week from Wednesday, August 22. Blum’s camp says that’s one of two KGAN debates he’s agreed to, along with other invitations from KWWL-TV and KXEL radio in Waterloo and newspapers in Anamosa and Waverly. The release from Blum’s campaign says he wants to have a total of ten debates…one each week from now until Election Day. That’s down from the dozen debates Blum initially proposed. Finkenauer’s campaign, meanwhile, says that it is finalizing a debate schedule. In a statement, Finkenauer spokesman Kane Miller said Blum shouldn’t be “playing games and negotiating debates through the press,” but rather “getting out in public for a change and interacting directly with voters.”
