The Belmont High School softball team is aiming for a Division 5 state championship starting today at the Wisconsin State Softball Tournament at the Goodman Diamond in Madison. The Braves (24-1) who were seeded second will meet third seed (19-3) Tri-County at 5 o’clock. The winner will meet in the championship game Saturday morning against the winner of the other semi-final between top seed Blair-Taylor and number four seed Gilman.
Belmont returns to the State semifinals for the second time in the past three seasons and for the seventh time overall. The Braves won the State championship in Division 4 in 2002 and finished runner-up in 2003 and 2006.
