Bee Branch Banner Party

Dubuque city officials are inviting the community to attend a party this weekend. The Bee Branch Banner Reveal Party will be held Saturday on East 16th Street, between Elm and the railroad tracks. Following a short program which starts at 10 am, a 62-foot-long section of the banners will be unveiled. Mayor Roy Buol says they’ll be gathering input from the community about the type of programming they’d like to see in the future outdoor recreational space along the lower Bee Branch Creek. Last summer, artwork was gathered from over 150 residents, mostly youth, to be displayed on temporary vinyl banners being hung on the existing fence around the former scrape yard at 16th and Elm Streets. A maintenance facility is being planned at the scrape yard. As part of a grant requirement, the city is required to complete outreach initiatives including community engagement, partnerships with local organizations and signage at the site directing residents to sources of project information.
