Barton Not Seeking Another Term

A longtime member of the Dubuque school board will not be seeking another term this fall. In an exclusive interview with KDTH, Tom Barton said although it was a difficult decision he is happy with the direction the district is headed. Over the past decade, the state legislature has underfunded state aid and Barton says the school board has always found a way to weather the storm. Barton says he will miss interacting with the citizens in the district. Barton, a former teacher who is now president of Barton Wealth Management, says education has meant so much to him over the years. The 52 year old Barton says he won’t rule out running for public office in the future, but for now he’s content with where the district is going. Fellow board members Lisa Wittman, Tami Ryan and Mike Donohue have filed papers to run for another four-year term. Loras College professor Kate Parks is also in the running.
