Back To School Safety Tips

Students in the Dubuque Community school district as well as Holy Family Catholic schools are headed back to class today. With that in mind, the Dubuque police department wants kids to arrive and return home safely. Lt. Joe Messerich says motorists should be especially aware of their surroundings when kids are going and coming from school. When you see a school bus with “flashing lights” its’ “stop arm” down, motorists should make sure they obey the law. Messerich encourages parents to talk to their kids about how to stay safe to and from school, and never talk to strangers. The police department is also doing its’ part to ensure the safety of all students when they are at school. Messerich says typically the first week of school for students in Dubuque has been pretty uneventful, and that’s not a bad thing.
