Astros, Dodgers Extend Season

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Houston Astros earned a 7-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays to become just the second team in major league history to force a Game 7 after dropping the first three. George Springer put the Astros ahead to stay with a two-run single in a four-run fifth. Carlos Correa had three hits and an RBI after entering the game 3-for-18 in the series.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Will Smith crushed a go-ahead, three-run homer that sparked the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-3 victory over Atlanta in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. Corey Seager added a pair of homers and three RBIs to help the Dodgers extend the series. L.A. rallied off the Atlanta bullpen after starter A.J. Minter struck out seven while allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings.
UNDATED (AP) — The Southeastern Conference has postponed next week’s game between Missouri and No. 10 Florida, the third league contest moved this week because of COVID-19 outbreaks. The Gators had at least 21 players and coaches test positive for the coronavirus and dozens more quarantined because of contract tracing. That left them with fewer than the conference-mandated 53 scholarship players available today against defending national champion LSU.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas football coach Les Miles has been cleared to return to the Jayhawks after his positive test for COVID-19. However, he skipped the team’s trip to West Virginia for today’s game as a precautionary move. The 66-year-old Miles experienced only mild symptoms while quarantined after announcing last week that routine testing had returned a positive result.
UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that the New England Patriots canceled practice yesterday after a member of the organization tested positive for COVID-19. New England is scheduled to host Denver tomorrow, a game that has been postponed twice because of four positive coronavirus tests by players. The Indianapolis Colts temporarily closed their practice facility Friday after several people tested positive, but it was reopened after retests came back negative.
