• Sunday Sports Roundup (02/21/2021) -

  At the Iowa State High School Wrestling Championships last night in Des Moines, the Dubuque area had two wrestlers attempting to win state gold.

  Cascade senior Aidan Noonan captured his 3rd consecutive state title by claiming the Class 1-A 132-pound championship in a 6-to-2 decision over Gable Porter of Underwood.

  Dubuque Hempstead senior Chad Bellis came up just short of a state title. Bellis dropped a 4-to-3 decision against Trever Anderson of Ankeny in the Class 3-A 120-pound championship match and finished in 2nd place.

  Girls high school basketball tournament games:

  Hempstead fell to Waterloo West in their 5A region 3 semi, 71-50

  Wahlert Catholic won their Class 4a region 6 semi over Xavier, 52-36

  College basketball:

  Iowa State fell on the road to #9 Oklahoma, 79-72
  Northern Iowa lost to Indiana State 61-57…that rematch set for 3 oclock Sunday afternoon
  Hawkeyes in action this morning at Indiana at 11am.
  Clarke basketball – the women knocked off Benedictine 73-53, the men lost 74-68.
  DU’s men beat Simpson 87-74 – the women’s game against Simpson was postponed due to COVID issues.
  Loras men won at home over Nebraska Wesleyan 105-97…women had their game postponed.

• Dozens Donate Blood at Kennedy Mall Event (11/29/2020) -

  Dozens of people turned out this weekend for the Red Cross’ 34th Annual Day After Thanksgiving blood drive at Kennedy Mall in Dubuque.

  Organizers of the drive say they had a larger turnout than last year. In all, more than 80 people made appointments to donate blood.

  The holiday season is typically the time blood banks need more donations – this year, the pandemic is increasing the need.

• Sunday Sports Roundup: A Big Day for Clarke Basketball (11/29/2020) -

  High School Girls Basketball Saturday night: Dubuque Senior knocked off Cascade, 66-39.

  Clarke Women’s and Men’s Basketball: Clarke’s women improved to 4-1 with a 76-52 win over Grand View. Giana Michels scored a game-high 16 points and had four steals, Makenna Haase added 13 in the win.

  The men are now 3-1 after riding a huge first half to 96-80 win over Grand View. Deylon Johnson had a game-high 25 points.

  The women are back in action Monday at Mount Mercy at 5:30. The men will be on the road at Graceland on Wednesday.

  Iowa State’s season opener is this afternoon. The Cyclones host Arkansas Pine Bluff in game #1 of the 2020-21 season.

  NFL this afternoon…Minnesota Vikings host the Carolina Panthers at noon.

  Under the lights tonight, the Chicago Bears visit the Green Bay Packers with Mitch Trubisky under center for the first time since being benched 5 weeks ago.

• Saturday Sports Roundup: Iowa, Iowa State Football Each Pick Up Wins (11/28/2020) -

  A good day across the state of Iowa for college football Friday…the Cyclones all but clinched a spot in the Big 12 title game after knocking off Texas, 23-20.

  Breece Hall scored the GW TD with about 90 seconds left and ran for 91 yards and a score. Brock Purdy threw for 312 and a TD in the win. They close out the regular season at home against West Virginia on December 5th.

  The Hawkeyes also pulled out a close win at home against Nebraska, 26-20. Spencer Petras threw for just 193 yards and a score- he was also picked in the win. The defense forced a pair of turnovers, including the GW fumble in the closing minute. The Hawkeyes now 4-2 as they take on Illinois on the 5th

  College basketball also getting underway in force this weekend..

  Iowa routed Southern, 103-76…Luka Garza a GH 41 in the win…
  Northern Iowa now 0-3 on the year after losing to Utah State, 82-71…`
  Drake improved to 2-0 with a 69-53 win over South Dakota…
  Illinois knocked off Ohio University, 77-75 to improve to 3-0.

• Sunday Sports Roundup: Iowa Makes History at Penn State (11/22/2020) -

  A busy sports Saturday…

  College Women’s Basketball: Clarke was an easy winner over Bellevue University, 78-53.
  Womens soccer…Clarke doubled up Park University, 2-1.

  College football: Iowa State blanked Kansas State, 45-0. Brock Purdy threw for 236 yards and 3 touchdowns, Breece Hall ran for 135 and a pair of scores as the Cyclones defense forced 3 turnovers and held the Wildcats to just 149 yards of total offense. They’re on the road at Texas coming up Friday morning at 11.

  Over in the B1G, Northwestern now has the inside track to the western division title after knocking off Wisconsin yesterday, 17-7. Graham Mertz turned the ball over four times in the loss as the Badgers drop to 2-1 on the year.

  Iowa made history in State College yesterday, dropping Penn State to their first 0-5 start in program history. Mekhi Sargent ran for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Hawkeyes picked up a 41-21 win on the road.

  Elsewhere, Ilinois has now won back to back games- they downed Nebraska in Lincoln, 41-23. Ohio State knocked off Indiana, 42-35.

  NFL today…both the Packers and Vikings in the late window. Green Bay is down in Indianapolis taking on the 6-3 Colts. The Vikings are home to the 2-7 Cowboys, who will get Andy Dalton back under center after being out with both a concussion and COVID. Both of those games get underway at 325.

• Saturday Sports Roundup: A Big Day in the Big Ten (11/21/2020) -

  Men’s College Basketball: Clarke routed Cardinal Stritch, 102-56. 15 different players found their way onto the score sheet- Keith Johnson leading the way with a game-high 25 points in the win.

  Girls High School Basketball: Western Dubuque fell on the road at West Delaware, 45-35

  A full day of college football coming up Saturday, including a pair of games that could decide who plays in the B1G Championship Game. The Big Ten East could be all but decided after Indiana and Ohio State go at it in Columbus starting at 11am…then at 230, a battle of the most recent Big Ten West champs- Wisconsin is in Evanston taking on Northwestern.

  Out in Happy Valley, the Hawkeyes are looking to send Penn State to its first 0-5 start in more than three decades…Iowa, a 1.5 point favorite. Illinois is on the road at Nebraska for an 11 oclock start.

  Over in the Big 12, Iowa State hosts Kansas State at 3 o’clock.
