Archbishop Gives Dispensation For Fridays In Lent

The Archbishop of Dubuque has dispensed Catholics in the archdiocese from the obligation to abstain from meat this Friday and again on Friday April 3rd due to coronavirus concerns. Archbishop Michael Jackels says the dispensation does not apply to Good Friday April 10th. He says the dispensation is being granted in view of the difficulty people might have in finding meal alternatives to meat, or to go out grocery shopping. Jackels says those who are able to abstain from meat should do so. But people who are not able to abstain should perform some other act of penance.
