Martinez hit his major league-leading 28th home run, Steve Pearce hit a two-run shot and Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 5 2/3 innings to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-0 victory over the Texas Rangers. The Red Sox won their seventh in a row to end the day with their biggest lead over the Yankees in the AL East since April.

LONDON (AP) – Winners advancing to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon yesterday included top-seed Roger Federer, No. 2-seed Rafael Nadal, 8-seed Kevin Anderson, No. 9 John Isner and 12th-seed Novak Djokovic. On the women’s side, it was Kiki Bertens upsetting the top-remaining seed, No. 7 Karolina Pliskova. Angelique Kerber, Jelena Ostapenko and Serena Williams also advanced.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – LeBron James has officially joined the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers announced the signing of the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player as a free agent Monday night. James’ representatives announced last week that the superstar had agreed to a four-year deal worth $153.3 million with the Lakers. Los Angeles has missed the playoffs for a franchise-record five consecutive seasons. By contrast, James has played in the past eight NBA Finals, winning three titles.
