Italian Grinder Sandwiches
1 lb. Cremer’s hot Italian Sausage
1 lb. Cremer’s lean ground beef
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried basil
½ teaspoon dried oregano
1 bay leaf
26-30 oz. pizza sauce or marinara
8 Hoagie buns
1 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
In a large pot over medium heat, add Italian sausage and ground beef. Crumble and brown both meats until no longer pink. Drain fat.
Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, basil, oregano, pepper flakes and pizza sauce or marinara. Stir. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 50-60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Preheat oven to 375-degrees. Remove a small amount of bread from the bottom part of the hoagie bun to make a bowl for the meat. Fill the bowl with meat mixture. Cover the meat in shredded mozzarella cheese. Close up the sandwich and wrap in aluminum foil. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Remove and serve.
