Iowa High School basketball Hall of Fame head coach Jim Squiers is stepping into retirement again and Dyersville Beckman has hired his replacement from within.
Squiers, who spent 42 years at Bellevue Marquette Catholic, is retiring a second time in four years after deciding not to return as Beckman head coach. After putting together a 33-and-14 mark the past two seasons, Squiers career record is now 686 wins 297 losses. He took eight teams to a state tournament while at Marquette Catholic from 1993 to 2006.
2008 Beckman grad and assistant coach Mike Molony has been elevated to the job of Blazers head coach. Molony served as an assistant the past two seasons on the bench of Squiers and prior to that was the sophomore head coach for three seasons. Molony’s basketball sideline background also includes serving as a student manager while at Iowa for coaches Todd Lickliter and then Fran McCaffery.
