Jump in Flu Cases Forces Visitor Restrictions at Dubuque Hospitals

An increase in flu cases is forcing Dubuque’s hospitals to limit who can come to their facilities. Starting today, visitation restrictions are going into effect at both Mercy and Finley hospitals. Children under the age of 14 won’t be allowed to visit hospital patients. Anyone who has had respiratory problems or flu symptoms is also asked to stay away. Pat Lehmkuhl, the infection preventionist at Finley, says cases of Influenza have shot up in recent weeks. The flu is affecting people of all ages. According to Lehmkuhl, an increase in flu cases is not uncommon this time of year. The hospitals say the visitation restrictions are a precaution that will help them maintain a healthy environment for patients and employees.
