Narcan Available for Free at Area Pharmacies Friday

A medication that helps reverse the effects of an opioid overdose will be available for free at several Tri-State area pharmacies later this week. Narcan is a nasal spray used to revive people who have overdosed. It can keep them from dying and give rescuers time to get them to a hospital. The Iowa Department of Public Health is distributing about 2,000 Narcan packages that contain two doses of the drug around the state. Those packages will be available for free on Friday. The Narcan kits typically cost about 150 dollars. Here in Dubuque, the Narcan packages can be picked up at local Hartig, Hy-Vee, Sam’s Club, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart pharmacies. Packages will also be available at pharmacies in Dyersville, Guttenberg, Manchester, Maquoketa, and Monticello.
