Iowa Medicaid Director Hears Issues with Managed Care in Dubuque

More than two years after Iowa switched most of its Medicaid enrollees to privately managed care, some providers say they are still having problems getting paid. Julie Heiderscheit, President and CEO at Dubuque’s Hillcrest Family Services, reports they have run into billing issues and late or inaccurate payments. She says one of the big problems they’ve been having is the high turnover rate of employees with the managed care organizations. Iowa Medicaid Enterprise Director Mike Randol held a roundtable discussion with Hillcrest employees on Wednesday. He says the problems they are facing are the same he’s been hearing about for the past year. The state has now set up an expedited escalation process to review some of the issues and claims from health care providers. Randol’s tour of Hillcrest was arranged by State Senator Pam Jochum of Dubuque, who has been a vocal critic of the switch to managed care.
