Epworth Native Gansen to Challenge Lundgren for Legislature Seat

Gansen

A correctional officer from Epworth has announced plans to challenge for a seat in the Iowa Legislature next year. Leo Gansen will run as a Democrat in House District 57, which includes most of Dubuque County outside the Dubuque city limits. That district is currently represented by Republican Shannon Lundgren of Peosta, who will be seeking a second term in office. Gansen has lived in Epworth for much of his life and graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1976. For the past 23 years, he’s worked as a guard at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Anamosa, where he now ranks as a Senior Correctional Officer. A release from the Iowa Democratic Party also indicates that he’s an active member of the Knights of Columbus and Western Dubuque Booster Club. Gansen is the second candidate to announce they’ll challenge Lundgren next year. Teacher Lucas Link will be running for the District 57 seat as a Libertarian.
