Dream Fearlessly Event This Weekend In Dubuque

Often times than not, when homeless women and their children check into Maria House or Teresa Shelter in Dubuque, they come with nothing but the clothes on their backs. A few years ago American Family Insurance created “One Saturday to Dream Fearlessly”, a national event designed to inspire, protect and restore dreams. This year the local agency chose to support Opening Doors, which operates both women shelters as well as the Francis Apartments. Local agent Michael Pennington says on Saturday, hundreds of volunteers from the community will gather at the Steeple Square Event Center to assemble care kits for the residents at Maria House and Teresa Shelter. The care kits are for incoming residents at both of the women’s shelters. Once the care packages are assembled, they will be stored away and given to homeless women and children as they arrive at the shelters. Pennington says the decision to support Opening Doors was made months ago. There will also be free family activities and vendor booths, including the Dubuque police and fire departments. Food and beverages will be available for sale. The event starts at 11 o’clock Saturday morning.
