Crockpot Beef Stroganoff ala Dr. Jerry (11/10/2006)

Crock pot Beef Stroganoff ala Dr. Jerry
(Recipe submitted by Dr. Jerry of my really smart friends!!!)

1 1/2 to 2 1/2 lbs. of boneless beef (chuck cut into cubes or strips)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 1/4 cup beef bouillon
2 cloves garlic; minced
1-2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1/3 cup dry white wine
1/2-1 lb. mushrooms (sliced) or 1 8 oz can sliced
1/3 cup flour
1 to 1 1/2 cup sour cream (you can use "lite", "low fat" variety)
Egg Noodles to serve 5-6

Directions: Cut beef into strips or cubes. Coat with salt and pepper and place in bottom of the crock pot. Mix in garlic, Worcestershire sauce, beef bouillon and ketchup. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours (or until tender). Turn up to HIGH and add dry wine and mushrooms. Dissolve flour in small amount of warm water. Add to meat mixture. Stir and blend. Cook on HIGH for 15 minutes until thickened. Stir in sour cream and turn off heat. Serve over cooked egg noodles.

Michaels suggestions:

In place of 1 ¼ cup beef bouillon, I used 1 cup beef bouillon and ¼ cup red wine. I also used ½ tsp. Garlic powder in place of 2 cloves of garlic.

I would cube the meat rather than use strips. And be careful not to cook the meat too long. If you do, it will literally fall apart when you stir in the flour mixture, wine, mushroom and sour cream. Try folding it all in at once, gently.
