Sweet and Sour Meatloaf


1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 cup dry bread crumbs
1/4 cup oatmeal (regular)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 eggs
1/4 cup diced onion
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 cup shredded chedder cheese
2-8 oz. cans tomato sauce
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
1 teaspoon minced garlic
dash of worchestershire sauce


Preheat oven to 350-degrees. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, oatmeal, salt, pepper, eggs, onion, cheese, basil, garlic powder and 1 can of the tomato sauce. Mix together well, shape and put into loaf pan. Pat meatloaf down into pan forming a well for the sauce around all edges. Bake for 45 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the remaining tomato sauce, brown sugar, white sugar, vinegar, mustard, dash of worchestershire and garlic. Bring to boil and remove from heat. After 45 minutes of cooking, remove meatloaf from oven
and drain off fat, then pour sauce over the top. Return to ovenand bake for another 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let sit for 5 minutes before slicing.
