Southern Style Sausage Strata (12/23/2010)

Southern Style Sausage Strata


16 slices white bread, remove crusts and cube bread
1 ½ lbs. Cremer's Southern Style sausage, crumbled, cooked and drained
4 cups shredded Cheddar Cheese
1 ½ cups shredded Swiss cheese
6 eggs
3 cups Milk
½ tsp. Onion powder
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
½ tsp. Dry mustard


Topping:


3 cups Crushed Corn Flakes
½ cup melted butter


Spray a 9 x 13" baking pan with cooking spray. Spread one half of cubed bread cubes in bottom of pan. Distribute ½ sausage and ½ cheese evenly over bread. Cover with remaining bread. Then top with remaining sausage and then cheese. In a large bowl, mix eggs, milk, onion powder and dry mustard. Pour over bread mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. The next day, remove from refrigerator one half hour before baking. Preheat oven to 375-degrees F. Combine corn flakes and melted butter. Sprinkle over top prior to baking. Bake uncovered for 50-55 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest 10 minutes before cutting.
