Hickory BBQ Bacon Burgers (5/22/2009)

Hickory BBQ Bacon Burgers

3 lb. 80% lean ground beef
1 lb. Mild Italian sausage or ground pork
1 tablespoon. Season salt
1 lb. Hickory smoked bacon, cooked and drained (5 strips crumbled)
1 Bottle Hickory smoked bottled BBQ sauce
1 ½ tsp. ground black pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. onion powder
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3-4 dashes hot sauce (optional)
1 bag frozen onion rings, cooked according to package directions
1 8 oz. block sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Lettuce
Tomatoes, sliced
8 Hamburger buns

In a large bowl, mix gently together, ground beef, italian sausage or ground pork, season salt, ½ cup BBQ sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce,1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon and hot sauce. Shape into patties (my batch made 12). If time permits, cover bowl with plastic wrap and put in refrigerator for 4-5 hours to steep.

When your ready to cook, spray grill with cooking spray while cool. Next, heat grill to medium heat. Place patties on grill. Grill, covered over medium heat 6-7 minutes, turn, baste with some BBQ sauce and grill an additional 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Toast buns on grill if desired. Place lettuce on bun, tomato slice, burger, slice of cheddar cheese, 1 slice bacon broken in half, and top with 1 or 2 onion rings and pour on a little more BBQ sauce. Enjoy!
