Baked Ziti (9/19/2008)

Baked Ziti

1 (16 oz.) package Ziti pasta
1 lb. Italian sausage
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 (15 oz.) container Ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese
¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg
1 large jar marinara sauce (or spaghetti sauce)
salt & pepper to taste

Prepare pasta until al dente, according to package directions. Drain and set aside in a large bowl.

Preheat oven to 450-degrees F.

Over medium heat, heat a large non-stick skillet. Add Italian sausage and Italian seasoning. Crumble and brown. Drain. Add garlic and sauté 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant. Remove from heat.

In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, ¼ cup parmesan cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese and egg in a small bowl and mix well. Season with salt & pepper.

Spray cooking spray into a 9 x 13" inch pan, or 3 quart casserole dish. Spread half the marinara sauce on the bottom of dish. Spread sausage mixture over marinara. Top with ziti, then ricotta mixture and the remaining sauce. Sprinkle with the remaining ½ cup Parmesan cheese and remaining mozzarella. Bake 25-30 minutes, or until top is browned and sauce is bubbly.

Serve with a fresh salad and garlic bread.
