Cascade Man Accused of Forging, Cashing Woman’s Tax Refund

A Cascade man is accused of cashing a woman’s tax refund check without her knowledge. 45-year-old Byron Jones has been charged with a felony count of Forgery in Dubuque County District Court. Police began investigating in late February after a Dubuque woman found that her state tax refund check had been cashed while she was in jail. She says the check was mailed to a previous address. From there, police say the check changed hands several times before Jones reportedly signed both his and the woman’s names to the check and deposited it in an ATM. If convicted on the Forgery charge, Jones could face up to five years in prison, as well as a fine.
