Buol: Mayors Focus on Infrastructure at Annual Meeting

Infrastructure, school safety, and cybersecurity are just a few of the topics mayors from hundreds of American cities have discussed at a conference over the weekend. Dubuque Mayor Roy Buol is among those attending the US Conference of Mayors’ annual meeting, which wraps up today in Boston. On the topic of infrastructure, Buol says it’s becoming clear that something needs to be done soon. Estimates vary, but the cost of bringing America’s infrastructure up to modern standards is typically predicted to run past a trillion dollars. Buol acknowledges that all of that money and work won’t come overnight, but says bridges and dams may be the most critical needs. One of the conference’s final sessions featured youth speakers and advocates from across the country. Buol says the conference is looking at ways to help young people get more involved in their communities. The conference began on Friday. Mayors of more than 250 US cities were in attendance.
