Blum: Trump Infrastructure Plan to Help Rebuild Locks and Dams

Iowa Congressman Rod Blum expects President Donald Trump’s infrastructure proposal to jump start improvements to the lock and dam system along the Mississippi River. Trump unveiled his plan Monday. It includes money to repair the 27 locks and dams along the river, eleven of which sit alongside the state of Iowa. Blum says the locks were built with about a 50-year life expectancy, but have been in use for more than 80 years. According to Blum, the lengths of the dams need to be extended as well. The plan calls for using $200 billion in federal money. Additional funding would come from state and local governments, and – in some cases – private companies. Democrats say the plan would put burdens on local government.
