90 Degree Temperatures Expected Through Upcoming Weekend

Three weeks after the last time the Tri-States saw temperatures soar into the 90s, another heat wave is expected this weekend. Highs are currently forecast to push into the 90s on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Sunday looks to be the hottest day of the stretch, with an anticipated high of 97. KCRG meteorologist Kaj O’Mara says that much like Memorial Day weekend, temperatures could drift even higher within the city. The pattern bringing us the warm weather is also similar to what was happening three weeks ago. In both situations, a ridge of high pressure over the southwestern US was dominating the pattern. It’s still a bit unclear just how humid it will get this weekend, but O’Mara expects heat index readings to push into the triple digits either way. Should this cycle continue, any 90 degree weather will only be in place for a couple days before a return to normal. While Sunday is predicted to be the warmest day of the upcoming weekend, Saturday might be the best chance at a new record high. The forecasted temperature that day is 95 degrees, which would be just a single degree shy of the all-time mark of 96, set exactly 100 years ago.
